Friday Face-Off
The Friday Face-Off is a meme created by Books by Proxy with a current list of themes to be found over at Lynn’s Books. This book meme is an opportunity to compare the covers of a certain title that connect to a weekly theme. I am really enjoying doing these posts because it gives me the chance to celebrate cover art which is one of my favourite elements of book blogging. I hope you enjoy this post and makes sure you take part yourself next week!
The Theme This Week Is…
14th September – “He had killed man, the noblest game of all, and he had killed in the face of the law of club and fang.” – A cover featuring a wolf or wolves
First Cover
As soon as I heard the word ‘Wolf’ I immediately thought of Leo Carew’s debut novel, the first book in the Under The Northern Sky series, The Wolf. I loved this cover from the second I saw it. Simple yet eye-catching and it is certainly one of those covers that makes you remember to pick up a copy for yourself. There isn’t an alternative cover for The Wolf unfortunately so it has to go up against some different books.
Second Cover
I hadn’t seen this cover until I researched this post but this is phenomenal. I also love the cover art for the sequel The Lion’s Pride. The colour, the angle on the wolf and the detail all grabbed my full attention. I am glad I found this piece as the series sounds really good and I am adding it to my TBR.
Cover Three
I read this book last year and… I didn’t enjoy it. Sorry! But the artwork is superb to say the least and I kept staring at it instead of reading because I was captivated. The intricacy, depth and flow of the piece is top-notch. You may argue that it is not ‘Wolf’ enough to make this post but I think it is! This is going to be a hard decision to pick a winner.
The Winner Is…
Of course it’s The Wolf. Look at this book! So good! The metallic and mythological look just grabs me everytime. Do you agree?
Thank you for popping in for another Friday Face-Off here on ATIB. Wolves are a popular choice for cover art due to their immense awesomeness and ferocity. I do enjoy them as a centre point for books and I will keep my eyes peeled for more pieces so I could potentially do a round two to this particular face-off. I hope you are enjoying these posts and make sure you come back next week for another themed face-off.
I do agree – I love that cover and I looked at it for this week’s theme, but then went for a book I’d read – I haven’t read this one yet but have heard only good things.
