Welcome to another Book Tag attempt here on Always Trust In Books. I am approaching the subject of book addiction in a lighthearted and easy way, to deter from feeling stressed about my ever-growing TBR, and I hope that you will all join me in celebrating everything good about the quest for obtaining more books. It is a daily issue for myself and a lot of bloggers I know feel the pressure too. Is there such a thing as too many books? Do you feel excited about the prospect of more books on your shelf? Do you spend way too much on books instead other things such as food or heating? If so then you may want to get involved with this tag.

I haven’t seen many book addiction tags online as of yet but if you know another good one then please link it in the comments. This tag is for everyone but I will be tagging a few bloggers at the bottom of the page just to get the ball rolling 😀 I hope you enjoy this tag and if you don’t have the time to join in yourself then please leave your thoughts about the tag in the comments below.

What is the longest amount of time you can comfortably go without picking up a book?

I read daily for as long as time allows. I have been able to go a week or so without reading but I have to read non-stop to catch up. I would say a couple of days at a time is all I can manage without getting worked up.

How many books do you carry on your person (or kindle) at any one time?

I have always got at least 4 books in my backpack as well as my kindle. I tend to have only 10-15 books on my kindle. I like to make sure I have something to read at any available opportunity.

Do you keep every book you buy/receive or are you happy to pass them on to make space for more?

I am always trying to send my books on to people/bloggers who I know might enjoy them. If you see any books on my blog that you like the look of then get in touch! I am also keen to sell books I no longer have space for. I have started a collection (sophisticated stuff…) so I use the money to buy keepers :D.

How long would you spend in a bookshop on a standard visit?

I could honestly lose days in a bookshop (good thing we need to eat and stuff). All the staff at Waterstones are probably sick of me but I am always in search of a new series or a bargain to invest in. I get caught up in the atmosphere of a bookshop and what secret gems that it can hold.

How much time per day do you actually spend reading?

It varies depending on the time of year. Having a wife, kids and a full time job certainly doesn’t leave much room for reading but I manage the best I can. If I get the chance I can easily read for 3 hours at a time.

Where does the task ‘picking up a book’ appear on your daily to-do list?

At the moment I have a baby in the house so not very high. But once they are tucked up in bed then I can get stuck in to reading. I get to read with my 4 year old who is finding out all about how language works so I do get to read plenty through him 😀

How many books do you reckon you own in total (including e-books)?

At last count it was approx 600 at last count. No idea how many e-books I have sat on my computer atm. Quite a few. I am looking to get a badass bookcase from IKEA this year that will allow me to increase my book limit. Fingers crossed!

Approximately how often do you bring up books in conversation?

Quite a lot actually. But it is usually other people who confide in me about books. They see me as a walking library for recommendations and advice on books. I love to talk about books. People often regret instigating a conversation about books with me but I am okay with that.

What is the biggest book (page count) you have finished reading?

I recently finished reading IT by Stephen King which stands at 1166 pages. Took me ages to finish. Over a week! 😀 Great read though, highly recommended.

Is there a book you had to get your hands on against all odds i.e searching bookshops, online digging etc?

I was collecting all the John Grisham novels and a few of them were hard to come across. I am currently hunting for a copy of H.P. Lovecraft’s Necronomicon as I would love a copy but £25 is a tad steep for me atm.

A book you struggled to finish but refused to DNF?

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I was really looking forward to it and the novel does explore some fantastic concepts but I struggled through all the filler and arbitrary text that came in-between the good bits. A close call for DNF. A lesson in heightened expectations.

What are 3 of your main book goals for 2018?

Read plenty more classic novels. Read more psychology books. Read more graphic novels too. Easy goals to achieve I hope!

Have you ever had the privilege of converting someone into a reader (maybe via inspiration or incessant nagging)?

There have been people in the past few years who have taken to reading around me more often. A few colleagues, my wife and children. They were either inspired by myself or have got sick of me picking up a book and wanted to see what all the fuss was about 😀

Knowledge. Experience. Challenging. Enthralling. Fulfilling.

Thank you for stopping by to check out this new tag attempt. I looked online and couldn’t find an outright book addiction tag so I hope this is intriguing enough for everyone to dig in to. Books mean the world to me and I can’t wait to pass the love onto my two boys. Both of them already have a fascination with books that makes me proud but I don’t think I could honestly afford to have 3 book addicts living under the same roof so I hope they like fantasy and non-fiction :D.
