Hello everyone and welcome back to another Book Tag hosted by Always Trust In Books. The theme of this tag is ‘rule-breaking’. I have put together 20 questions all to do with going against all the reading/reviewing rules we all usually uphold. Book Tags are designed to be fun and interesting, I hope the questions I have concocted meet those expectations.

To the Questions!

1. A series that you enjoyed which you started halfway through?

That would be the Stephanie Plum series written by Janet Evanovich. I started reading book 15 not knowing it was a series… I went back to the beginning and got to book 9 but have since moved on.

2. Have you ever been late to work because you were reading a book?

Not as far as I can remember, some close calls though. Mostly I lose sleep if I am ever reading a book I cannot put down.

3. A Villain you preferred over the Hero?

I am going to talk about my most recent read for this one. I found that in The Age Of Olympus the main adversary, Kreztmer, had a seriously good reason for targeting the main character Duncan Forrester. I understood his rage and felt that his campaign to ruin Forrester’s career was justified.

4. A book that you picked up and read based on cover art alone?

This happens so much. It is a bit of a silly question but I thought it would bring about some great bookish answers. The Miriam Black series is just one of many I have become addicted to because of superb artwork.

5. A genre of book that you cannot stand?

Romance/Erotica. Mainly because it gets shoved in your face all the time on Facebook etc…

6. Do you only read physical copies of books?

I do prefer to be holding an actual book, but I do have a Kindle. I am starting to find that the Kindle is more comfortable to read with in general… what has happened to me..?

7. Have you got a ‘guilty pleasure’ author/book?

Not since I started blogging about books. I haven’t really got the time to read anything but books that I want to share with everyone. Before all this I would say it was the early Dan Brown books 😀 good stuff.

8. A film adaptation you enjoyed more than the actual book?

I am going to go with The Shawshank Redemption, but only because I have never read the book and the film is so good. It is ‘I don’t care that it is three in the morning, I going to finish this’ good.

9. Are you okay with folding the pages of a book to mark your page?

Never! I am a book mark user. No exceptions… if I haven’t got a bookmark then it is usually a press release, a pen and one time I used another book to hold my page.

10. An author that, in your own opinion, can do no wrong?

Simon Morden is my answer to this. I have read 5 of his books and loved every single one of them. He is a science-fiction/fantasy writer who writes bold story-lines in set in crazy versions of real life. Brilliant stuff 😀 and the artwork is pure genius.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

11. Have you ever written in a library book?

I have not. I most likely will if I need to ward off potential readers if I think a book is so bad it is worth writing down. But that hasn’t happened so far, which is good!

12. Do you stick with a book till the end, even if you aren’t enjoying it?

Usually I stick with it. I think I have only DNF’d about 3 books in my life. I always hope it may get better. Reviewing books is slowly making me see sense and drop books I am not enjoying… but I am not there yet.

13. A book you finished but failed to review?

I am going to go with Schlump by Hans Herbert Grimm. It was not because I didn’t appreciate the book. It is an amazing book that captures the tone of one of the most significant times in recent history exceptionally well. I just didn’t feel up to reviewing the book after I finished it. Schlump is one of those books that weighs on your mind a long time after you finish it.

14. A book you thought you would love and ended up hating?

This is a hard one as I don’t really hate books that often. I would have to say Skipping Christmas by John Grisham. I thought it would be a good book to gear me up for Christmas one year… I was very wrong.

15. A book you were unsure about that you ended up loving?

Two books spring to mind. The first is Orphans of the Carnival by Carol Birch. I felt that the story may not suit my tastes but it is a beautiful book that I am so glad I read.

The second book has to be The Gospel of Loki by Joanne Harris. I read it at a time when I was unsure about Mythology… and it changed my reading preferences forever. If you have not read this then you need to.

16. Have you ever borrowed a book, and not returned it…?

I am really good at the whole borrowing scenario. I am usually the victim in this circumstance. My mother is the most common culprit… every time she comes to my house, she leaves with an armful of great books never to be seen again.

17. A popular series you outright avoid?

I outright avoid quite a few of the popular series that occur these days. Twilight, Hunger Games, The Maze Runner… all no.

18. Have you ever spoiled a book for someone by accident… or on purpose…?

Not really as most of my friends don’t actually read all that much. I constantly ruin TV for my wife as I can’t stand not knowing what is going to happen on shows like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. So I read ahead on all the spoilers.

19. Do you review your TBR in order of received?

I really try. But we all know it is a battle of the head and the heart. I have a list of books I am to review in a specific order, but if a book comes through the post that I am really passionate about, I have been known to read it there and then…

20. A book you had to skip to the end because you couldn’t wait to find out what happened?

Another question I almost certainly always fail at. I skip to the end of quite a few books because I either need to see if a character is still alive or if I am right about a particular hunch. I can’t seem to stop myself… A specific example would have to be Her Darkest Nightmare by Brenda Novak. That book is so intense!
